The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs battled the Bridgeport Bluefish in what would be the final time the two teams would meet at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard this season in Bridgeport, CT. Getting the call for the Crabs was La Plata native, Daryl Thompson. The righty was looking to follow-up RHP Gaby Hernandezโ excellent startTuesdayย night with a solid outing of his own in hopes of picking up his tenth win on the year. The Bluefish countered with their own righty, 6โ5โ, 205-pound, Josh Butler, who had not earned a win in his last seven starts. Thompson would carry a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and a clutch three-run double by CF Jeremy Owens would give the Blue Crabs a 5-2 victory.
For the third straight night, the Blue Crabs would receive a dominant start by their starting pitcher. RHP Daryl Thompson was looking to continue the Blue Crabs pitching success against the Bluefish and he wouldnโt disappoint. Thompson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing a single with one out to Bridgeport DH, Alexis Gomez. Thompson would allow a single run in the eighth and finish with eight innings pitched, four hits, one run, a walk, and four strikeouts before handing the ball over to Crabsโ reliever RHP Jeff Stevens to close the door in the ninth.
The majority of the Blue Crabs offense would come in the sixth. With one out, 1B Jose Julio-Ruiz would double and come around to score on a 3B Cesar Nicolas single. With Nicolas on, C Jose Salas would walk and DH Alvin Colina would single to load the bases for CF Jeremy Owens. Owens would come through with a bases-clearing double that would give the Blue Crabs a 4-0 lead. The Crabs would add an insurance run in the ninth thanks to Mike Richard scoring on a wild pitch to cement the 5-2 victory.
