Charles County Sheriff Rex W. Coffey said the Agency’s robbery suppression plan played a major role in helping solve a citizen robbery that occurred last week in which a fast food delivery man was robbed at gunpoint by three teenagers. Although the victim was not injured, the teens pointed a gun at him and threatened to hurt him if he did not cooperate. “It’s that kind of behavior we simply will not tolerate,” said Sheriff Coffey, “and it’s why we initiated this operation.
Our plan includes increased patrols, strong visibility and enhanced communication. We’ve deployed officers normally assigned to administrative duties, utilized our crime analysis personnel to pinpoint crime trends, and placed officers in areas where they’re most needed. In the event a robbery does occur, we have officers and detectives on the scene within minutes to get information which could be vital to solving the case quickly.”
On Nov. 17, detectives arrested Charles Dominique Williams, 16, Jonathan Elijah Savoy, 16, and Peter Royal Alfred, 18, all from Waldorf, in connection with the Nov. 9, armed robbery of a delivery man in the 4200 block of Augusta Street.
Investigation revealed the suspects called a local carryout restaurant and placed an order for delivery. The teens stood outside a house – chosen at random – and waited for the victim. Once the victim arrived, the suspects confronted him, pointed a handgun and demanded money and the food. The victim complied and the suspects fled with cash, chicken wings, subs and fries.
Officers canvassed the area and detectives interviewed the victim, obtaining descriptions of the suspects and other important information. Investigators moved forward, quickly processing evidence which ultimately led to the suspects’ identities.
All three suspects were charged as adults with armed robbery which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in jail. Further, an additional five years could be added to the sentence since a handgun was used in the commission of the crime.
