On Tuesday, bull dozers and heavy equipment behind the Tiki Bar on Solomonโs Island pulled out the dozens of palm trees, scraped up the sand and dragged off the large Easter Island replica statues.
The clearing work came in accordance with an injunction issued by the Calvert County Circuit Court to remove all the improvements until the proper plans are submitted and permits attained.
Tiki Bar operators did not follow the proper channels before installing their island paradise behind the bar for their big grand opening weekend in April, and county officials sued in court after the barย apparently did not follow stop work orders from the county.
Tikiโs liquor license is also up for renewal by the local arm of the State Liquor Boar in Calvert County, and in an unusual wielding of county power, the Board agreed to the countyโs request to not renew the permit until the zoing issues are cleared up.
The action is unusual because the county has no authority over the liquor board and zoning issues have nothing to do with liquor license rules.
See the slide show below for images of the dismantling.
