Update 11:30 a.m. May 27

Lexington Park, MD –ย State authorities reported an electrical malfunction sparked a fire Thursday evening, May 26 that damaged a one-story manufactured home in St. Maryโ€™s County.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office the blaze occurred on Bridgett Lane in Lexington Park. The fire was discovered shortly after 9 p.m. by a neighbor. Forty firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 10 minutes. While it is not reflected in the fire marshalโ€™s report, the fire did rekindle overnight resulting in additional damage.

โ€œThe fire was the result of an electrical malfunction in the area of the refrigerator,โ€ a fire marshalโ€™s report stated. โ€œThe occupants were displaced and are being assisted by family.โ€

State investigators identified the homeowner as Vicki Cogar. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $45,000.

While there had been information that a firefighter was injured, the fire marshalโ€™s report stated there were no injuries sustained as a result of the fire.


Update 5:07 a.m.–There is an unconfirmed report of a firefighter sustaining an injury on the deck while exiting the trailer. EMS is proceeding to the scene to render assistance.


Update 4:42 a.m. Command units advise the fire is under control.


Update: May 27, 4:20 a.m. —ย  A Fire has rekindled and is reported to be “ripping out of it again”. The mobile home fire whichย occurredย on Thursday evening causedย substantialย damage however the second fire incident has caused it to be a total loss.

Fire is under control at this time, command is awaiting SMECO and the State Fire Marshal. More details to come.ย
