INDIAN HEAD, Md. – Two people were critically injured Sunday evening after a car struck a motorcycle on Indian Head Highway near Jenkins Lane, according to emergency officials.
Charles County first responders were dispatched at 7:48 p.m. on May 3, for reports of a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Initial callers reported two victims on the ground, including a nineโyearโold girl and an approximately 30-year-old male.
When units arrived, they found both motorcyclists with lifeโthreatening injuries. Emergency units reported the adult male had been thrown approximately 100 feet, while the child had been thrown an estimated 150 feet. Both patients were incoherent and no longer communicating as medical crews began treatment.
Emergency crews requested two medevac helicopters due to the severity of injuries. Both patients were stabilized, loaded into ambulances, and transported to the designated landing zone at the 3900 Livingston Road for air transport.
The child was airlifted to the Childrenโs National Medical Center as a critical trauma patient and the adult male to MedStar Trauma Center, also was critical.
Witnesses told dispatchers that two men who were inside the striking vehicle fled the scene on foot down Jenkins Lane. Law enforcement began a search with K9s. A witness reported taking a photograph of the individuals before they left the area. Law enforcement is investigating.
A third individual, a 43-year-old male, believed to be a passenger from the striking vehicle, later returned to the scene requesting medical evaluation. A life support unit was dispatched to assess the person transported him to Fort Washington Medical Center.
Multiple fire, EMS, and command units responded, and the crash remains under investigation. There is an expected extended road closure on Indian Head Highway, (Maryland Route 210).
