WALDORF, Md. — Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon following a two‑vehicle crash that required extrication at the intersection of Smallwood Drive and St. Charles Parkway.

Charles County emergency dispatchers received the 911 call at 12:53 p.m. on May 3, reporting a collision involving two vehicles and at least one person trapped. Fire and EMS teams from Charles County were sent to respond at the scene.

Emergency services arrived at 1:01 p.m. and confirmed one driver pinned inside a heavily damaged vehicle. Firefighters began extrication operations while EMS crews assessed additional patients.

A 72-year-old woman received an evaluation at the scene and was taken to Charles Regional Medical Center (CRMC) with minor injuries. She was conscious, alert, and breathing.

A 58-year-old man, who was trapped in the second vehicle, was rescued by emergency crews and taken to CRMC with minor injuries. He remained conscious and communicative throughout the rescue.

The road was opened again at 2:17 p.m., after the vehicles had been taken away and the area was cleared.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
