Nancy was born in La Plata, MD, and graduated from La Plata High School. After retiring in 1990 from the Naval base in Indian Head, she felt the need to do something artistic. She took classes in and did quilting and machine embroidery designs for ten years. After accomplishing everything she wanted to do in sewing, she decided to learn how to paint. Nancy started taking classes with various local groups and national organizations in oils, acrylics, watercolor and pen and ink.

One of her favorite experiences in painting was having her Christmas ornament selected to be on the 2004 White House Christmas tree. The following year, Nancy painted an ornament for the Library of Congress Christmas tree. It was a book representing the state of Maryland. Nancy also painted her interpretation of Romaine Brooks “La Baronne Emile D ‘Erlanger” ca. 1924, hanging in The Renwick Gallery for The Gallery’s Holiday Tree.

Hailing from Queens New York, Lorina Harris has had the pleasure of being raised seeing art in the great museums of New York City. She began her study as a child, taking place in and winning contests, which inspired her to pursue art as a profession. She started and completed her foundation year at the University of Hartford Art School, but feeling too young, took a 10 year stint to gain some life experience. This led her to Europe where she ended up studying and graduating from the Amsterdam School of the Arts with a degree in fine arts and teaching art and art history at the highest level in the Netherlands.

Living in Europe for over 13 years has afforded her the proximity to a multitude of inspirational styles from the masters, to the cutting edge of art of all kinds. Her favorite media momentarily, are paints and charcoal. Returning to the States a decade ago, Lorina now owns and operates a small art studio in Bryans Road, MD, where she works, teaches, holds parties and an art club (www.art-smart-studio.com).
