Lusby, MD –ย Two people were rescued Saturday afternoon, May 14 after the boat they were traveling in flipped over in choppy water, state authorities reported.

According to Candy Thomson of the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP), the incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the Chesapeake Bay off the coast of Drum Point. The two occupants of the 15-foot Boston Whaler had been fishing for several hours when a severe storm with strong winds passed through the area. The vessel was heading for shore when it overturned. The two passengersโ€”both from Waldorfโ€”were wearing lifejackets at the time. One of the passengers used a cellphone to call 911.

Thomson said the two boaters were pulled from the water by a โ€œgood Samaritanโ€ in another boat. Neither boater was injured

The overturned vessel was towed to Solomons Harbor. Police said the boat sustained $4,000 damage.
