Bryans Road, MD – Fire damaged a single-story home on Shiloh Church Road in Bryans Road Saturday evening, Oct. 3, state officials reported.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze, which was discovered by a neighbor, was reported shortly after 7 p.m. Fifty-two firefighters from Bryans Road, Potomac Heights, Accokeek, Indian Head, Waldorf, La Plata, Allentown and the Naval Surface Warfare Center were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and had the flames under control in five minutes.
“The accidental fire was the result of a candle being left unattended on the computer stand,” Dfm. Don Brenneman reported. “There were no reported injuries and the occupants were being assisted by the American Red Cross.”
Damage to the home is estimated at $5,000. The fire marshal identified the home’s owner/occupant as Liza Shirriel.
