UPDATE: June 12, 9 a.m.
Official Press Release
On June 11, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police responded to Cut Rate Liquors in Lexington Park for a person struck by a car which had fled the scene.
The operator, later identified as John T. Mcleod, 26 of Lexington Park, returned to the scene after police arrival and was detained. St. Maryโs County BCI detectives responded and it was determined that an argument had occurred between the victim, Eric Scott Johnson, with no fixed address, and Mcleod. Mcleod pushed the victim to the ground and then ran over him in the parking lot with his vehicle, dragging him a short distance. After pulling the victim from under his car, Mcleod fled the scene.
Johnson was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Washington Hospital Center, where he is now in stable condition.
Mcleod was incarcerated at the St. Maryโs County Detention Center and charged with first and second-degree assault.
In what seems stranger than fiction the following report is based entirely upon eye witness reports provided to TheBAYNET.com who were on the scene before first responders.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, in the area of 21704 Great Mills Road in Lexington Park, a man allegedly dragged another man from a liquor store, dropped him in front of his dark green Lincoln and ran over him. Some eye witnesses report the victim was run over and that when the car stopped, the victim was lying under the car. The suspect proceeded to drag the man’s body out from under his car and drove off.
When first responders arrived and gave treatment to the victim, calling for Trooper 7 to Medevac him to shock trauma, the dark green Lincoln drove back to the scene. A woman left the vehicle and told authorities that she thought she may have run over someone. However, witnesses on the scene told police that the male suspect was in the car. Police detained the man until they could have eye witnesses make a positive identification. After the ID was made by more than one witness, aย man identified as 26-year-old, John Terrell McLeod was placed under arrest and transported to the county jail where he awaited disposition by the Court Commissioners. McLeod was charged with first-degree assault. He was recently charged for second-degree assault on May 28 from an incident dating back toย May 22.
No word at this time on the condition of the victim and official police reports will not be issued until later. TBN will update this story as the information is released by authorities.
