UPDATE March 29
The fire was determined to be accidental as a result from an electrical malfunction in the ceiling of the garage. The family was displaced and is being assisted by Red Cross.
On Saturday, March 27, at approximately 3:15 p.m., the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to report of a house fire at 431 Chesapeake Beach Road in Owings.
Upon arrival, heavy fire and smoke could be seen coming from the single family home. This fire appeared to have originated in the garage area. A second alarm was dispatched shortly after first arriving units.
Over 35 firefighters from Dunkirk, Huntingtown and Prince Frederick of Calvert County, Harwood-Lothian and Deale of Anne Arundel County all responded to the call.
The garage was totally destroyed along with at least one vehicle. Damages as a result of the fire are estimated to be $100,000. No injuries were reported.
Fire Marshall’s responded to the scene, no word yet on the cause of the blaze. The homeowners are being assisted by Red Cross at this time.
