MARBURY, Md. — A single-family home in Charles County was destroyed by a fire Monday, Jan. 5, leaving six residents displaced and a family dog dead, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The fire was reported at about 1:52 p.m. at a residence in the 4200 block of Rufus Madeline Place. Firefighters arrived to find the structure fully involved. Crews from the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department, along with surrounding departments, responded to the scene, with approximately 50 firefighters working to contain the blaze.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour, officials said. No people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but one dog was found deceased after the flames were extinguished.

The home was occupied by two adults and four children, all of whom are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The structure was deemed a total loss, with estimated damages of $125,000 to the building and $50,000 to its contents.

A family member discovered the fire and alerted authorities. The cause and area of origin remain under investigation, though officials said the fire is believed to be accidental.
