Update from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on 12/9/14 at 10:21 a.m.:

St. Mary’s County deputies responded to Route 5 at Flora Corner Rd in Mechanicsville at 9:54 on Monday, December 8th, for a motor vehicle collision.

A Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra driven by Nicole Middleton, age 28, was northbound on Route 5 when a Chevrolet truck, operated by Nellie Harrison, age 76, entered Route 5 from Flora Corner Road.

The truck failed to yield the right of way striking the Oldsmobile and causing it to leave the roadway and into an embankment. Three children were passengers in the Oldsmobile.

Two of the children were flown to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The third child was transported along with Middleton to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.

Trooper 7 and ambulance currently en route to transport patients to hospital for injuries.

Five reportedly trapped with one child, total of five people involved in accident.

It is being reported as a two vehicle accident with confirmed entrapment.
