The blaze occurred Friday, May 30 shortly after 6 p.m. on Timberneck Drive in Owings. One fire fighter was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital complaining of chest pains.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the fire originated in the kitchen of the one-story, wood-frame house owned by Joseph and Martha Humm. An occupant returned home to find the house filled with smoke.

โ€œThe fire department responded and located a small fire burning in the kitchen which extended into the attic,โ€ stated Dfm. John Ray. โ€˜The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.โ€

Forty-seven firefighters from Huntingtown, Dunkirk, North Beach, Prince Frederick and Anne Arundel County were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 31 minutes.

The estimated damage to the house and contents is $160,000.

While authorities have given no indication the fire was suspicious, if anyone does have any information that could aid the fire marshal in the investigation they should call 443-550-6820.
