OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday, August 5,  at approximately 10:09 a.m., a small two seated experimental plane landed on Maryland Route  235 in the area of North Clover Hill Road in Hollywood.
 
The pilot, James Dayton of Mechanicsville, reported the “prop” malfunctioned while in flight.  Dayton was able to land the plane on Route 235 without incident.  He taxied the plane onto the yard of a private residence on Clover Hill Road. Dayton, who was the only occupant of the plane, was not injured.

This incident was handled by Maryland State Police, Cpl. S. B. Koch.


UPDATE 10 a.m. on Aug. 5

Fire and Rescue crews, St. Mary’s County Police, MSP and Trooper 7 all responded to report of a plane in the roadway this morning shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5

Investigation revealed the pilot of a 2005 two seater experimental aircraft was having mechanical problems and made an emergency landing along Southbound Three Notch Road, then pulled the aircraft onto Clover Hill Road where he safely parked the aircraft in a neighboring yard.

The pilot who has been identified as James Leroy Dayton of Mechanicsville, was not injured as a result of the emergency landing.

Emergency crews along with St. Mary’s County Police are responding to report of a traffic complaint after an airplane landed in the roadway in the area of southbound Three Notch Road and Clover Hill Road in Hollywood shortly after 10 a.m.
No injuries have been reported. The pilot is said to be ok.

No word on what may have caused the abrupt landing or what type of plane was involved.
