9-week-old puppies Samson and Stoney were reunited with their owner today, thanks to the media and an honorable citizen.
The news media and an honorable citizen today helped reunite a Charles County Sheriffโs officer and her two American Bulldog puppies, which were stolen from her backyard last week.
The theft occurred between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. June 19. The officer left the puppies in the backyard, which is secured by a six-foot privacy fence, and returned several hours later but the puppies were missing. After conducting a thorough search of the property, the officer confirmed the puppies had no means of escape and reported them stolen.
Today, the Media Relations Office issued a press release about the theft and soon thereafter, the news media reported the theft on television broadcasts and their websites. A man who saw one of the broadcasts called the Sheriffโs Office and said he believed he was in possession of the dogs, having bought them from an unidentified seller last week. The Sheriffโs Officeโs call-taker, who was unaware the dogs might belong to an officer, advised the man she would have an officer dispatched to his residence.
As luck would have it, the officer whose puppies were stolen was working today and the call was in her sector. She responded to the residence and recognized the puppies in question as her own. Thus, the puppies and their rightful owner were reunited and meanwhile the theft remains under investigation.
The Charles County Sheriffโs Office is grateful to the news media for reporting the theft and airing the picture and to the citizen who, in a commitment to doing whatโs right even without personal benefit, contacted the Sheriffโs Office when he saw the report
