The first accident occurred Saturday afternoon in Lexington Park. A motor vehicle accident left a 17-year-old male with minor head injuries.

An ATV accident in Mechanicsville Saturday evening resulted in a 9-year-old female’s air evacuation.

A third incident, another ATV accident, left an 11-year-old male in Hermanville with head injuries and a broken leg.

 Ibanez

The most deadly of the accidents this weekend occurred Saturday evening along Bay Forrest Road. Eddi G. Barrientos Ibanez was driving a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup traveling west on Bay Forrest Road at a high rate of speed when he ran off the road into a large tree.

The truck struck several trees before coming to a rest in the roadway.

A language barrier made communication on the scene difficult for the medics. They were unsure if the people thrown from the vehicle were in the bed of the truck or in a rear seat.

Victims Louis Felipe Moya Martinez, 34 of Waldorf, and Christina Garcia Chavez, 22 of Lexington Park, were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, two other passengers, Zaydia Garcia Chavez, 18 of Waldorf, and Jose Esuin Leon Guerra, 28 of Waldorf, were flown to Prince George’s Shock Trauma and are listed in stable condition.

Ibanez is currently in the custody of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. He was flown from the scene to Prince George’s Trauma Center for observation of minor injuries.

Police are siting alcohol and speed as contributing factors to this incident.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office crash team is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information, please call Sgt. Theodore A. Belleavoine 301-475-4040.

UPDATE: Ibanez, 21 of Lexington Park, was charged Monday with two counts of negligent homicide by auto while intoxicated for the deaths of Christina Chavez and Louis Martinez. He is being held in the St. Mary’s County Dentention Center awaiting an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
