
Brandywine, MD— On Sunday, Jan. 8 at 0859 a.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police (MSP) Forestville Barrack were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on northbound Route 5 south of Brandywine Road. The collision involved a 2002 Acura MDX, which traveled off the roadway, striking several trees, and overturning.
Due to the impact with the trees and the position of the vehicle at final rest, the passenger was trapped in the vehicle. Upon arrival of emergency medical services (EMS)/Fireboard and police, witnesses stated the operator exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot into the woods. After a lengthy extraction of the passenger, she was flown to Washington Medstar Hospital by MSP Aviation Trooper 2.
Troopers from the Forestville Barrack were able to track the operatorโs foot prints in the snow for approximately 1/5 mile from the scene. MSP K-9 responded and began tracking, utilizing a bloodhound. U.S. Park Police Aviation, โEagle 1โ responded, and assisted in the search. All attempts to locate the operator were unsuccessful.
Due to the seriousness of the passengerโs injuries, MSP Southern Region Crash Reconstruction Unit and MSP CRASH team responded for the scene investigation. The driver of the vehicle responded back to the scene of the collision.ย
Due to the investigation and removal of the vehicle, Northbound Branch Avenue was closed for approximately five hours. The investigation is continuing.
The driver of the Acura has been identified as David Anthony Thompson Jr., 18 of Charlotte Hall. The passenger was identified as Taylor McKenzie Dye, 18 of White Plains. Police reported that charges are pending.
