DUNKIRK, Md. — An Upper Marlboro man was charged after a traffic stop in Dunkirk led deputies to suspected crack cocaine and a glass pipe, according to charging documents.
Norman Lindsey McLeod Jr., 60, of Upper Marlboro, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis and possession of CDS paraphernalia following the June 3, 2026, traffic stop.
The incident began around 12:44 a.m. when a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling near Southern Maryland Boulevard and Chesapeake Beach Road in Dunkirk. Court documents state the deputy observed a white Buick LaCrosse with a tag light out and a Maryland registration.
A traffic stop was conducted at the BP gas station at 2975 W. Chesapeake Beach Road. During the stop, the deputy learned McLeod was a passenger in the vehicle.
Charging documents state the driver gave verbal consent to search the vehicle for weapons or narcotics. McLeod exited the vehicle and also gave permission for a pat-down for weapons.
During the pat-down, the deputy felt what was believed to be a pill bottle in McLeod’s left pants pocket. McLeod indicated the bottle contained his prescription medication, according to court documents.
After retrieving the bottle, the deputy observed several suspected crack cocaine rocks inside and no prescription pills, charging documents state. McLeod allegedly told the deputy he had “a little bit” of crack.
A probable cause search of the vehicle also led to the recovery of a burnt glass pipe from the driver’s side door. Court documents describe the pipe as being used to inhale crack cocaine.
The suspected crack cocaine and glass pipe were recovered and placed into evidence.
McLeod was charged and later released on recognizance the same day.
A trial is set for July 23 in Calvert County District Court.
