Victor Freeland and Gregory Kernan Re-Appointed To Calvert County Planning Commission

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Two members of the Calvert County Planning Commission were reappointed to their positions as of the Aug. 4 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting.

The commission members, Victor Freeland and Gregory Kernan, have both served on the Planning Commission since 2023, making this their second term appointment. Each term is three years, and members can serve up to five terms.

Freeland was also confirmed to serve again as chair of the Planning Commission during this meeting.

The Planning Commission is a volunteer citizen review board that acts both in an advisory and a decision-making capacity. The group reviews and recommends the Comprehensive Plan, town center master plans, zoning changes, amendments to ordinances, development of public structures, land acquisitions and other growth-related issues. It also reviews and approves land subdivisions and site plans for residential and commercial use, in coordination with the Development Review Section and Policy Section staff of Planning & Zoning.

This year, the Planning Commission took on a key role in the data center conversation in Calvert County, stepping in to review text amendments at the request of the BOCC and holding a joint meeting with the Environmental Commission.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the County Administration Building,150 Main St., Prince Frederick. Meetings are also available for virtual viewing.
