LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee is seeking applicants to fill the ballot vacancy left by the death of Republican commissioner president nominee Tom Jarboe, who died Aug. 5 following complications from end-stage liver disease.
In a notice posted Thursday, the committee said it is accepting applications from Republicans interested in being selected as the party’s replacement nominee for the November general election.
According to the announcement, interested candidates must submit a resume and letter of intent to Jenboydrep@gmail.com by 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10.
Interviews are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Aug. 12, with the time and location to be announced.
The committee also said all paperwork required to apply for the position must be filed with the St. Mary’s County Board of Elections by 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.
Jarboe, a former St. Mary’s County commissioner who represented District 1 from 2014 to 2018, secured the Republican nomination for commissioner president in the 2026 primary election before his death. He was seeking to return to county government in the November general election.
The Republican Central Committee concluded its announcement by asking the community to continue keeping Jarboe’s family in their prayers.
