Virginia Thompson Lacey, affectionately known as “Ginny,” age 63, of Avenue MD, passed away on August 11, 2026, after a brief illness.

Ginny was born on September 17, 1962, to the late Erma Joy Thompson and late John Briscoe Thompson of Hollywood, MD.  After graduating from Leonardtown High School in 1980, Ginny pursued a fulfilling career as an insurance agent before retiring.

In 1998, Ginny married Donnie Lacey. Together they shared 28 beautiful years of marriage, building a loving home and raising numerous dogs together. Ginny loved to go camping, listen to music, and go to bluegrass festivals.

Ginny was known for her quick wit, generous heart, and gentle spirit; she loved to spend time around a campfire, preferably with a poodle in her lap. She was happiest spending time with her cherished dogs and horses and being in the home she created with Donnie in the good ole 7th District.

In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her brother, John “David” Thompson. She is survived by her devoted husband, Donnie; her sister, Brenda Thompson Bond (Paul) of Towson, MD; her niece, Vicki Cantrell; her nephew, Broderick; and six great-nieces and nephews.

Giny’s legacy lives on in the countless memories she created, the love she shared so freely, and the lasting impact she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Though she will be greatly missed, her enduring love for family will remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Matthew Tate officiating.  Interment will follow at Joy Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Hollywood, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Brenda Lacey, Janet Pettersen, Doris Woodburn, and Vicki Cantrell.  Honorary pallbearer will be Donna Miedzinski.
