SEVERN, Md. — Two people from Virginia were arrested after Anne Arundel County Police located a stolen vehicle bearing Virginia tags in Severn and recovered a loaded handgun, authorities said.

On April 28, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers received an alert from the department’s automated license plate reader system for a stolen blue Dodge Journey in the area of Reece Road and Telegraph Road.

An officer located the vehicle, confirmed it was stolen, and took both the driver and passenger into custody without incident.

Police said the passenger, Aiyonah Aalycia Fields, 22, of Richmond, Virginia, was found in possession of a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and faces multiple firearm-related charges.

The driver, Mercadi Renay Garza, 22, of Richmond, Virginia, is charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and theft.

Court records show both Garza and Fields were released on their own recognizance following arrest.

Garza also faces a traffic-related charge for operating a vehicle without a valid license.

A hearing is set for June 30, 2026, in Annapolis District Court.
