Comptroller Peter Franchot will tour Waldenโ€™s Hope Place facility at 21770 FDR Blvd in Lexington Park on Monday 4/25 at 3:30 p.m., and he will be bearing gifts.ย  Walden was selected by the Comptroller as the St. Maryโ€™s County winner of the Better with Less Award.ย

ย

The award program is designed to recognize organizations which have achieved economic success while using fewer resources, identified new market opportunities in the current economic climate, used innovation to operate more efficiently or strengthened local communities by providing vital services or opportunities for success. One winner will be named in each county and in Baltimore City.

โ€œWe are pleased and honored, both by Comptroller Franchotโ€™s visit and with receiving a Better with Less Award,โ€ says Dr. Kathleen Oโ€™Brien, Executive Director of Walden Sierra.ย  โ€œIt is so rewarding to be able to continue to offer the people of St. Maryโ€™s County the crisis, trauma counseling, substance abuse treatment services, and community initiatives that they have come to expect from our organization, even in the midst of budget cuts and belt-tightening. It is a privilege to serve those with the courage to seek help.ย  I am grateful to our staff, volunteers, and community partners for helping us make our motto of โ€œhelp for today; hope for tomorrowโ€ a reality!โ€ โ€ย

Walden expanded its presence in Lexington Park when it opened Hope Place in November of 2009, in response to increasing need for crisis and behavioral health services in the Lexington Park/Great Mills community.ย  The organization is exceeding projections for individuals served by its programs throughout the county.ย ย ย
