WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man was arrested after police linked him to an armed carjacking and recovered a loaded handgun following a foot pursuit in Charles County, according to court records.

Omar Bernard Johnson, 19, was taken into custody Dec. 27, 2025, after Charles County Sheriff’s deputies located a stolen vehicle connected to an armed carjacking reported earlier that day in Prince George’s County. Authorities said the vehicle, a Nissan Murano valued between $25,000 and $100,000, was tracked to the 4200 block of Drake Court in Waldorf.

Officers established surveillance after locating the vehicle parked and unoccupied. Johnson, who matched the suspect description provided by Prince George’s County police, was later observed in the area. When officers approached, Johnson fled on foot and was found hiding behind a bush in a nearby backyard, police said.

Officers reported recovering a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun near Johnson, along with a 12-round magazine loaded with 11 rounds, including one in the chamber. Police also recovered the keys to the stolen vehicle. Investigators said the firearm matched the description provided by the carjacking victim.

Court records show Johnson faces multiple charges, including felony theft of property valued between $25,000 and $100,000, illegal possession of ammunition, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person due to a prior violent or felony conviction, and use of an assault weapon or large-capacity magazine during the commission of a felony. He is also charged with several misdemeanor handgun offenses, including possession of a firearm by a person under 21, wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun, and wearing, carrying, or transporting a loaded handgun.

Investigators said Johnson was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his age and prior criminal history. Police also allege he attempted to pull away from officers during his arrest.

Prince George’s County police are pursuing separate charges related to the armed carjacking in their jurisdiction, while Charles County authorities filed the firearm and theft charges stemming from Johnson’s arrest.

Johnson was ordered held without bond following an initial bail review on Dec. 27. A second bond review was held Dec. 29 before Judge Robert B. Riddle, who again ordered Johnson held without bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2026, in Charles District Court.

  1. A Nissan Murano worth up to $100k? Was it full of eggs from the last year of Joe Biden’s term?
