WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing two misdemeanor indecent exposure charges after Charles County Sheriff’s Office investigators alleged he exposed himself while several children were playing outside a motel in Waldorf, according to court documents.
Jon Stephen Landis, 66, of Waldorf, was charged in the District Court for Charles County with two counts of indecent exposure. The charges were filed July 20, 2026, through a statement of charges application.
According to the application for statement of charges, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded at approximately 10:41 a.m. July 17 to the Mastersuites Motel, located at 2228 Old Washington Road in Waldorf, after receiving a report of indecent exposure.
Investigators spoke with a motel guest who reported that at approximately 6 p.m. July 16, her children, ranging in age from 7 to 10, were playing in a grassy area outside the motel when they observed a man standing in the window of a first-floor room watching them. According to charging documents, the witness alleged the man was completely unclothed and exposed his genitals while looking toward the children, causing them to become frightened and run away.
The juvenile witnesses told investigators the man remained near the large bay window while they were outside. The reporting witness described the suspect as a man who was frequently seen sitting in front of a nearby 7-Eleven.
According to court documents, the responding deputy identified Landis as the suspect. Motel staff told deputies that Landis had checked into the room for a three-night stay from July 15 through July 18 and confirmed he was the only person assigned to the room.
A summons was issued July 20, 2026. Landis is scheduled to appear for a preliminary inquiry on Sept. 14, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
