At 1:09 a.m. on October 31, Trooper First Class W. Shelton was on routine patrol when he observed a brown Ford Taurus bearing MD registration 9ALH33, with an inoperative tag light.ย 

Trooper First Class Shelton initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the operator.ย  The operator was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.ย ย 

Contact was then made with the passenger.ย  He advised his name was James Sylvester Dorsey, 41 years of Waldorf.ย  A NCIC/MILES check revealed that Mr. Dorsey was wanted on a warrant by the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack for failing to appear.ย 

Dorsey was placed under arrest and transported to the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack for processing.ย  At the barrack a secondary search of Mr. Dorsey was conducted, a clear plastic baggie, which contained a smaller clear blue plastic zip lock baggie fell out of his jacket onto the floor at his feet.ย  The clear plastic baggie contained a white powdery substance of suspected cocaine.ย 

Dorsey was taken to the Charles County Detention Center for further processing and bond review.ย  Dorsey was charges with possession of a controlled dangerous substance cocaine, and use of drug paraphernalia.
