ย Concerned that some residents may still have questions and concerns about proposed changes to the St. Leonard Town Center Master Plan, town resident, business owner and Calvert County Commissioner Steven R. Weems announced Tuesday, Aug. 7 that he intends to organize a special meeting. The town hall-style meeting will be held at a yet-to-be-determined location. โIโll meet at the liquor store if I have to,โ said Weems, whose family-owned business, Wemyss Liquors, is located within the town center. Weems stated that other possible locations for the session are the Dowell House and the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department.
The commissionerโs announcement came one week after a public hearing on the third draft of the revised St. Leonard Town Center Master Plan was held. Some of the residents expressed concerns about some of the planโs components, including commercial development and a proposed second access to the Calvert Beach/Long Beach subdivisions. The public comment on the draft will be accepted through Aug. 30 and the document could be discussed and acted upon by the Calvert County Planning Commission as early as that panelโs September meeting.
โWeโll go over any questions they might have,โ said Weems, who indicated later he intends to request the Department of Community Planning and Building give a brief overview at the meeting. He hopes to have the meeting the week of Aug. 20.
Weems noted he attended the initial St. Leonard Town Center Master Plan meeting in 1992. The first master plan was approved three years later. The revision process began in 2008.
While he is trying to facilitate the informational town hall meeting, Weems has already indicated he is abstaining from the decision-making process to avoid any conflict of interest.
