PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County is always ready to welcome new entrepreneurs in all spaces, and these four new and upcoming businesses are no exception to the innovation and dedication Calvert residents know and love.

As the weather warms and more residents are spending time outside, it creates more opportunities to explore local businesses and learn about what they do in the community. Summer also brings the chance to explore activity and business fairs and discover new places in your area.

Lauren Kelly Floral Design

Located at 3819 Harbor Road in Chesapeake Beach, Lauren Kelly Floral Design opened its doors in April. The shop is owned by born-and-raised Calvert County local Lauren McCauley, who sells flowers in the store and works to create custom designs for events or for clients on an as-needed basis. The store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mathnasium

Located at 437 Solomons Island Road N., Prince Frederick, Mathnasium is the latest addition to the growing Armory Square Shopping Center. Mathnasium is a national company that helps kids with math from kindergarten to first grade. The Mathnasium Method™ is designed to build a strong foundation for math excellence, empowering students to truly understand and even enjoy math.

Mathnasium of Prince Frederick is open 12:30-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Interested students and parents can schedule a free assessment online.

Holy Cow Creamery

North Beach’s newest ice cream shop opened on Memorial Day and is busy preparing for its ribbon-cutting celebration. The shop serves low-fat soft serve, homemade hard ice cream, shakes, sundaes, smoothies and specialty sodas. Holy Cow opened in the location that used to be the Dairy Freeze, just a block away from the boardwalk, bringing back another welcome ice cream option to the area.

Holy Cow Creamery is open daily from noon to 10 p.m.

Glamour Nail Bar

Glamour Nail Bar isn’t open yet but will be another wonderful addition to the stores located on H.G. Trueman Road in Solomons, joining a growing list of national, regional and locally owned businesses.

The salon has kept a steady and fun presence on Facebook throughout the opening process. While there’s no opening date soon, posts looking for nail technicians and offering sneak peeks are helping drum up excitement.
