CALIFORNIA, Md. — A wind advisory is in effect for Southern Maryland and surrounding areas Thursday afternoon, with forecasters warning of strong gusts that could cause minor damage and power outages.
The National Weather Service issued the alert this morning, cautioning that west winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, will impact the region from 2 p.m. until midnight. The advisory covers central, northern, and southern Maryland, along with parts of Washington, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Residents were urged to secure loose outdoor objects, as gusty winds could bring down tree limbs. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, were advised to use caution on open roads and bridges.
