PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Windy Hill Middle School will move forward with updates to a water pump replacement project that started back in 2024. The project calls for demolition of an existing chilled water pump and replacement with a heating water pump connected to the boilers at the facilities.
Windy Hill Middle School currently only has a single water pump, which is not ideal for the location. The project initially had intended to replace an ice slurry cooler with an ice cooling chiller. In project design, the school and contractor developed an alternative option to take a chilled water pump from the old system and swap it out for a heating pump to avoid redundancy.
Director of Planning and Construction Shuchita Warner said that during this process, her team was able to add to the capital overlay fund to cover possible changes in the plan. The alternate plan adds $58,000 to the project, for a total of $842,000. Warner also said that the contractor was on-site and able to complete the work in scope of the other work.
Warner also said due to mergers and some business reorganization, her team was able to get the contractor to honor the original price submitted in their bid from last year. Typically, prices aren’t guaranteed because markets can change and companies set prices based on those conditions.
The project at Windy Hill Middle School is still on track, and residents can check online for updates.
