Woman Assaulted by Boyfriend Suffering from Head Injury

St. Mary’s County Deputy Matthew Rogers responded to a residence in Leonardtown, for report of an assault. 

Upon arrival, Deputy Rogers learned John Melvin Mattingly, 53 of Leonardtown, became involved in an argument with his girlfriend (victim).  During the argument, Mattingly struck the victim in the head with his fist causing injury. 

Mattingly was arrested, charged with assault and released to the custody of the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
