On April 30, Patrol Officers responded to the St. Maryโs County Detention Center for a death investigation.
The investigation was subsequently assumed by Detectives from the St. Maryโs County Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
Investigation revealed that the victim, Deborah Anne Hills, 43, of Salisbury, was served lunched at approximately 11:45 a.m.
At 12 p.m. Correctional Officers returned to retrieve her lunch tray and found that the victim had not eaten and was unresponsive.
Correctional Officers began CPR and Hills was transported to St. Maryโs Hospital, by the Leonardtown Rescue Squad, where she was pronounced dead at 1:07 p.m.
The Chief Medical Examiners Office conducted an autopsy and preliminary findings revealed that the cause of death was congestive heart failure.
Hills had been incarcerated at the St. Maryโs County Detention Center since January of this year for charges of bad checks. She was completing her sentence at the Detention Center and was awaiting extradition to Delaware for similar charges.
