At 1:17 a.m. May 27, Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officers responded to the CVS located at 3855 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf for the report of a theft.

The investigation revealed Nyia Corlette Gore, 25, of Washington, D.C., stole merchandise from the store and fled in a gray sedan. A lookout for the vehicle was broadcast and Officer T. Yates observed it traveling on Old Bailey Court shortly thereafter.

He stopped the vehicle and found Gore and the stolen merchandise inside. Gore was arrested and secured in the backseat of Officer Yatesโ€™ police cruiser. She was left there momentarily managed to escape the locked police cruiser.

Once her escape was discovered, a lookout was broadcast for Gore and officers found her an hour-and-a-half later in a parking lot on St. Markโ€™s Drive. She had also managed to partially remove her handcuffs.

She was charged with theft valued at less than $500 and second-degree escape. She is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
