Mechanicsville, MD— On May 5, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Roszell responded to Leeland Road in Mechanicsville for the report of a domestic assault in progress.ย
When Roszell arrived on the scene contact was made with the victim. The male victim advised that several individuals had been involved in a verbal argument with the defendant, who was identified as Ashley R. Dean, 27 of Mechanicsville.ย
The victim advised that Dean threw her house key at him. “However, it did not strike him, and [the defendant] left the house,” according to charging documents.
The victimย then locked the door behind her [the defendant]. The victim told police that approximately 20 minutesย later Dean returnedย to the house and was unable to get in. The victim stated that Dean started to break several windows in the house including the window to the front door.ย
The victim stated, “Dean attempted to enter the house through the living room window and was irate,” according to charging documents. The victim also advised he had his 7-month-old daughter in his arms and was attempting to tell Dean to stop acting the way she was becauseย of their child, court documents indicated.ย
The victimย stated he did attempt to prevent Dean from gaining entry through the window and pushed her back outside.ย While talking to the victim, Maryland State Police troopers Ditoto and Capranica searched the grounds in an attempt to locate Dean.
Dean was locatedย in a boat on the property; Dean had a few injuries from the broken window glass.ย
Dean was asked what happened to the windows According to Roszell, Dean said, “she did not want to talk about what happened to the windows.” Roszell informedย Dean it was not against the law to destroy her own property.ย
Dean stated to Roszell, “If you’re going to arrest me do it already,” according to charging documents.ย
Dean was placed under arrest and placed in the back of ย a patrol car. She began to kick the rear passenger window, causing damage. Dean also kicked and scratched officers on the scene, while they secured her into the patrol car.ย
Dean was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property. Dean has a hearing tentatively set for June 30 in Districtย Court. Dean faces a maximum jail sentenceย of 30 years and two months and/or a maximum fine of $8,000.ย
