At 4 a.m. April 26, Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officers responded to the 8000 block of Bowie Road in Nanjemoy for the attempted motor vehicle theft.

Officers contacted the victim and obtained suspect information. Officer L. Payne stopped a suspicious subject matching the description given from the victim a short time later.

He was identified as the person who attempted to steal the vehicle on Bowie Road. While conducting a search officers found a black metal pipe used as a smoking device for marijuana and a wallet in the suspectโ€™s pocket. The wallet was found to be stolen.

The suspect was identified as Howard Bernard Dent, 38, of Temple Hills. He was charged with theft less than $500, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
