First Quarter Superintendent Art Gallery artists receive certificates of recognition

Leonardtown, MD โ€“ The music and fine arts program in St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schools was applauded Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the St. Maryโ€™s County Board of Education meeting held in Leonardtown.

Board member Mary Washington reported that she had recently spent an enjoyable time with the all-county chorus. โ€œWe have an outstanding music and fine arts program here in St. Maryโ€™s. When other counties are cutting back on their programs we are thriving and I am excited about that,โ€ she said.student artworkย โ€œThe thought of our public schools without a music and fine arts program would be like having a grey-colored day!โ€ย

SMCPS has looked for new and innovative ways to encourage students to be creative anย express their unique musical and artistic talent.

To encourage SMCPSโ€™s young artists, Superintendent Smith has a gallery of artwork displayed at the Moakley Street Building. The artwork is displayed on the walls of the main Board of Education meeting room and along the hallways for visitors to see as they enter the building.artists
