Lottery Win Launches Housekeeper’s New Home Search

OXON HILL, Md. – A Prince George’s County man cleaned up at the Lottery’s Customer Resource Center on Thursday, turning in a Money Money Money instant ticket worth $50,000. The housekeeper told Lottery officials that his top-prize win would allow him to finally establish a home down-payment fund, something he and his wife have longed to do for many months.

They found the winning scratch-off while laundering bedding.

“We were waiting for our blankets and bedspreads to finish at the laundromat, so we just wandered next door,” the Oxon Hill resident explained. That brought the couple to Livingston Road Gulf’s convenience store. While he is a twice-weekly Lottery player, the winner recalls that he had not planned to buy an instant ticket that day. “We had time to kill, so I decided to get two.”

Selecting Money Money Money, a $5 game that debuted the previous day, the pair got to “work.” His wife, finishing her instant ticket first, uncovered a $20 winner. Before he could congratulate her, the lucky housekeeper found a match on his instant ticket that identified a $50 win. Or, was it $500?

He studied the scratch-off and then studied it again, counting the zeros over and over. “I tried every way possible not to see the $50,000 printed there. I knew it could not be true. I had to be missing something.”

The loyal player wasn’t, of course, missing anything. His $50,000 win is Money Money Money’s first top prize to be claimed, leaving seven more. The game also has all 14 of its $5,000 second-tier prizes. Ownership of his lucky Lottery retailer, the Gulf station at 6211 Livingston Road in Oxon Hill, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.
