Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a 15-year-oldย boy with intentionally setting fire to a mailbox and basketball hoop at a single family dwelling.

Investigators determined that theย teen poured gasoline on the mailbox and the base of a basketball hoop and used a lighter and matches to ignite them.

The fire at the 2519 Brigham Court in Waldorf occurred Feb. 8,ย outside the Humbar residence. The one alarm fire caused an estimated $250.00 dollars in total damage. Theย teen admitted to setting the fires because he did not like one of the Humbarโ€™s children.

Deputy State Fire Marshals served theย teenager with the charges yesterday afternoon, without incident, at a public place with the juvenileโ€™s father present. Theย boy is charged withย second-degree malicious burning and malicious destruction of property under $500 dollars. If convicted of these chargesย he could face penalties not to exceed over 2 years imprisonment and/or $1,000 dollars in fines.

The juvenile was released to his father and is awaiting a juvenile hearing.
