Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a 15-year-old boy with intentionally setting fire to a mailbox and basketball hoop at a single family dwelling.
Investigators determined that the teen poured gasoline on the mailbox and the base of a basketball hoop and used a lighter and matches to ignite them.
The fire at the 2519 Brigham Court in Waldorf occurred Feb. 8, outside the Humbar residence. The one alarm fire caused an estimated $250.00 dollars in total damage. The teen admitted to setting the fires because he did not like one of the Humbar’s children.
Deputy State Fire Marshals served the teenager with the charges yesterday afternoon, without incident, at a public place with the juvenile’s father present. The boy is charged with second-degree malicious burning and malicious destruction of property under $500 dollars. If convicted of these charges he could face penalties not to exceed over 2 years imprisonment and/or $1,000 dollars in fines.
The juvenile was released to his father and is awaiting a juvenile hearing.
