LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The Garvey Senior Activity Center will mark a milestone this week as community members gather to celebrate the facility’s five-year anniversary with an afternoon of music, activities and fellowship.

The anniversary celebration is set for Tuesday, May 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the center, located at 23630 Hayden Farm Lane in Leonardtown.

Organizers say the event is intended to honor the center’s opening in 2021, which took place during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and without the traditional fanfare typically associated with a new community space.

“Five years ago, in the middle of a pandemic, this new building opened with very little fanfare. Let’s give it the celebration it deserves,” organizers shared in the event announcement.

The event will feature live music by Folk Salad, along with center activities, demonstrations and refreshments. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.

“This is a chance for the community to come together, celebrate the center’s impact and enjoy an afternoon of fun and connection,” organizers said.

The celebration is open to the public and designed to highlight the center’s role as a gathering place for residents across generations.
