St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office patrol units responded to a residence for a burglary to a private residence on November 14th. The victim reported unknown suspect(s) entered his residence by breaking the lock to a kitchen window. Once inside, suspect(s) located the key to a safe and stole several firearms and knives. Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab Technicians responded and processed the crime scene. The case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.
St. Mary’s County Detective Corporal David Alexander and Detective Scott Ruest were able to identify a suspect in the case on November 16th. Detectives located the suspect, identified as a 16-year-old male from Leonardtown on November 20th, and placed him under arrest for the burglary. Detectives subsequently recovered 34 firearms, approximately 1,000 rounds of ammunition, 8 knives, and 1 guitar – which accounts for all of the items and weapons stolen during the burglary.
The juvenile was transported to the Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed and released to a parent pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services. The juvenile was charged with 1st Degree Burglary, Theft $1,000 to $10,000, and Theft Under $1,000.
