At 2:44 a.m. April 23, TFC Linger of the Leonardtown barrack stopped a vehicle for speeding, 36 mph in a 30 mph zone, on Route 242 and Route 5 in Morganza.

Upon contact with the driver, James Michael Nelson, 30, of Chaptico, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected.

After attempting the field sobriety tests, Nelson was arrested for DUI. A search of the vehicle, incident to arrest, was conducted.

A cellophane bag, containing marijuana, was located under the driver seat.

Nelson was charged with DUI, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia. He was taken to the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention Center and held pending a bail review.
