
DRAYDEN, Md. — A 61-foot motor vessel caught fire late Thursday night at Dennis Point Marina and Campground in St. Mary’s County, causing significant damage and spreading heat to nearby boats, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire was reported around 11:06 p.m. on May 7, 2026, at the marina in the 46000 block of Dennis Point Way in Drayden.
Investigators said the vessel was on land undergoing repairs when the fire started in the engine compartment.
The owner, who was on board at the time, discovered the fire and was able to escape without injury.
Firefighters from the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding agencies responded, with about 40 personnel working for approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Officials estimated damage to the vessel at $100,000, with an additional $25,000 in contents loss.
Two nearby motor vessels also sustained heat damage as the fire spread.
The fire displaced one person, according to officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
