
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On May 18, at approximately 3:31 p.m., officers responded to a two vehicle crash on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard (MD-648) at Kuethe Road in Glen Burnie.ย Investigation showed a Jeep was northbound on Kuethe Rd when it failed to stop for the stop sign and entered the intersection.ย As a result, a truck traveling eastbound struck the Jeep.
The driver of the Jeep, John Payne Jackson, 85, of Annapolis was alert and conscious and taken to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore on a precautionary basis with unknown injuries.ย The driver of the box truck,ย Richard L. Hartloff Sr., 62, of Baltimore, was taken to Harbor Hospital with minor injuries.ย In the evening on May 18, 2018, while receiving medical treatment at Maryland Shock Trauma, Jackson died from his injuries.
The cause of the crash is the Jeep failing to stop for a stop sign and yield to traffic on a thru roadway.ย Based on witness accounts, a medical event may have contributed to the crash. It does not appear that speed, drugs or alcohol were involved.ย ย The Traffic Safety Section is investigating and charges, if any, will be after review by the Stateโs Attorney.
