LEONARDTOWN, Md. — In preparation for the Primary Election, the League of Women Voters of St. Mary’s County, St. Mary’s County NAACP Branch 7025 and the St. Mary’s County Library have partnered to host candidate forums for candidates in the Primary Election.

All Primary Election candidates were invited to participate in the forums if they are in a contested race.

The following forums are scheduled:

Wednesday, June 3: Democratic Primary Forum for House of Delegates District 29B, House of Delegates District 29C and County Commissioner District 1

Thursday, June 4: Republican Primary Forum for House of Delegates District 29C, County Commissioner President, County Commissioner District 2 and County Commissioner District 4

The forums will begin at 5:50 p.m. in Lexington Park Library Rooms A and B. Candidates also have been invited to participate in a meet-and-greet beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the library lobby on both evenings. Tables will be available for candidate materials. However, no campaign materials, including flyers, signs, hats, pins or T-shirts, will be allowed in the meeting room during the forum.

Each forum will allow candidates to open with a three-minute statement. Audience members will then have approximately 40 minutes to address questions to one or more candidates. All questions must be submitted in writing, and the forum moderator will direct questions to the candidates. Each forum will conclude with two-minute closing statements from each candidate.

Questions for candidates may be submitted in person during the forum. Questions also may be submitted up to 24 hours prior to the forum online at http://tiny.cc/2026DemSMC or http://tiny.cc/2026RepSMC.

All submitted questions will be reviewed by a three-member panel for relevance, civility and non-repetition. Questions may be rephrased at the discretion of the panel.

The forums will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/@StMarysCountyLibrary/.

Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about candidates in the St. Mary’s County Primary Election.
