GREAT MILLS, Md. — In the heart of Southern Maryland, Hype House Cycle and Fitness Studio has become far more than just a place to exercise — it has become a home for connection, empowerment and transformation.
Founded by Samantha Burgess, Hype House was built on the belief that fitness should be welcoming, motivating and accessible to everyone no matter where they are in their journey. What started as a vision for a high-energy boutique fitness studio has quickly grown into a thriving community where members support one another both inside and outside the studio walls.

Known for its signature rhythm-based cycling classes, strength training, boxing, yoga, high-intensity interval training and group fitness programming, Hype House offers something for every fitness level. The studio’s certified instructors bring unmatched energy, encouragement and authenticity to every session — whether daily open classes, private group training or corporate events — creating an atmosphere where participants feel challenged, celebrated and inspired.
But what truly sets Hype House apart is the culture.
At Hype House, strangers quickly become friends, and friendships often grow into family-like bonds. The studio has cultivated a positive and uplifting environment where members encourage each other through personal goals, life challenges and victories both big and small. From early morning spin classes to evening strength sessions, the energy inside the studio is contagious.

Longtime member Adair says, “Being a busy working mom, the class times and format allow me to fit it into my crazy schedule. I schedule my workout just like a meeting or baseball practice; I commit and it goes on the calendar.”
That sense of belonging is part of what owner Samantha Burgess intentionally set out to build. Samantha has worked to create a space that prioritizes inclusivity and community over intimidation. Members range from first-time gym-goers to seasoned athletes, and everyone is welcomed with the same enthusiasm and support.

For some members, the impact begins with simply feeling welcomed. Chandra explains, “Hype is a place where I feel accepted and encouraged. It gives me confidence to keep showing up and working toward my goals.”
Members often describe the atmosphere as uniquely supportive and free of judgment, something that can be difficult to find in traditional fitness settings. Billie highlights that welcoming environment directly. “There is no judgment and everyone supports one another. That makes it easier to challenge yourself and keep coming back.”

For many members, that feeling of connection is immediate. Courtney says Hype quickly became more than a workout destination. “Hype has become a huge part of my life. The friendships and support I’ve found here mean so much to me.”
The culture at Hype House extends over and above the studio floor, resonating throughout Southern Maryland to help Hype House grow into a staple within the local fitness community. Beyond fitness, the studio regularly supports local causes like food drives, charities including Special Olympics and the Cinderella Society, fundraisers such as for local fire departments, and community events like vendor fairs and wedding expos while also creating opportunities for members to connect outside of workouts. Whether it’s themed rides, wellness events, social gatherings, or collaborative community initiatives, Hype House continues to strengthen relationships throughout the area.
Colleen says those relationships are among the studio’s greatest strengths. “I have met some of the most amazing people through Hype. The friendships alone make it special.”

The instructors themselves are a major part of the studio’s success. Each certified coach brings their own personality, music style and approach to fitness, making every class feel unique and engaging. Their passion for helping others succeed is evident in every ride, workout and interaction. Anne points directly to the instructors as a defining part of the Hype experience. “The positivity and encouragement from the instructors, the music, and the camaraderie and friendships make Hype like no other gym I’ve been to. They truly care about helping people succeed.”
For many members, Hype House has become more than a gym — it has become a source of confidence, stress relief, motivation and belonging. Terri speaks to that personal transformation. “Hype has changed my life in so many ways. It has helped me become stronger both physically and mentally.”
That emotional connection is something members often mention alongside the physical benefits of training. Shay describes Hype in simple terms that resonate with many members. “It’s the best hour of my day. No matter what kind of day I’m having, I leave feeling better.”

As boutique fitness continues to evolve, Hype House Cycle and Fitness Studio stands out by focusing on what matters most: people. Through high-energy workouts, meaningful relationships and a commitment to community, Sam Burgess and the Hype House team are helping Southern Maryland move stronger together.
