WELCOME, Md. — Crews pulled a woman from the Port Tobacco River on Tuesday night during a fatal water emergency in Welcome.
The incident was dispatched around 8:10 p.m. on May 19, 2026, after reports of a person in the river.
Initial dispatch information indicated the woman had been near the shoreline before entering the water. Emergency personnel were told she had not been seen returning to shore.
Fire, rescue, marine and drone resources were requested as first responders searched the area.
Crews later located the woman, brought her to shore and began CPR.
Resuscitation efforts were eventually terminated. The scene was turned over to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
No additional identifying information was immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation.
