Bollywood Masala Opens New Waldorf Restaurant Following La Plata Move

WALDORF, Md. — The wait is over for fans of Bollywood Masala. After closing its longtime La Plata restaurant on May 28, the popular Indian restaurant has officially reopened in Waldorf, bringing back the authentic flavors, warm hospitality and customer favorites that have made it a Southern Maryland dining destination for nearly a decade.

The move closes one chapter and begins another for the family-owned restaurant, which spent nearly a decade serving customers from its Rosewick Road location in La Plata. While the address has changed, owners Rajat and Punita Malhotra say the traditions, recipes and hospitality that built a loyal following over the years remain at the heart of the business as it begins its next chapter in Waldorf.

In a farewell message shared on social media, the owners reflected on the memories made at the La Plata restaurant and thanked customers for their support over the years.

“These walls have held more than just tables and chairs — they’ve held first dates, family dinners, birthdays, celebrations, and memories we’ll carry forever,” the restaurant wrote.

The Malhotras said ongoing issues with their landlord ultimately left them with no choice but to relocate. In a message to customers, they stressed that the move was not a goodbye to the community.

“We are relocating just 5 miles away to Waldorf where we hope to continue the journey we started over two decades ago — serving the community we love with the same passion, warmth and dedication you’ve always known,” the Malhotras wrote.

Although the address has changed, customers will find much of what made Bollywood Masala a local favorite remains the same. The menu continues to feature popular dishes including butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, biryani, tandoori specialties, freshly baked naan, vegetarian entrees and traditional Indian desserts.

The restaurant has earned a loyal following since opening in 2016, becoming one of Southern Maryland’s most recognized destinations for Indian cuisine. Many customers expressed excitement online following the reopening announcement, with hundreds reacting to social media posts welcoming the restaurant back.

The Malhotras expanded the brand beyond Charles County in recent years, opening a second Bollywood Masala location in Alexandria, Virginia, in 2024. They previously operated a location in Dahlgren, Virginia, but later closed it after determining that most of their customer base was concentrated in Charles County.
