Man Wanted In Fatal Gaithersburg Hit-And-Run Arrested While Boarding Flight To Honduras

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 26-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Gaithersburg was arrested while attempting to board an international flight to Honduras, according to police.

Josue David Carranza Castellon, who has no fixed address, was arrested Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The charges stem from a crash reported around 4:47 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg.

The crash involved a gray 2011 Honda CR-V and a pedestrian.

Investigators determined Carranza Castellon was driving north on Muddy Branch Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the SUV veered off the roadway, entered the grassy median and struck Brian Roy Longaberger, 56.

Longaberger, whose address was unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Gaithersburg City Police officers located a gray 2011 Honda CR-V with front-end damage near the crash scene.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit identified Carranza Castellon as the suspect in the fatal hit-and-run, according to police.

Detectives applied for and received an arrest warrant Wednesday.

Carranza Castellon has been charged with manslaughter by vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death.

He is being held in Elizabeth, New Jersey, while awaiting extradition to Maryland.
