Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Southern Maryland Until 10 P.M.

SOUTHERN MARYLAND — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect Thursday afternoon and evening for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties, with damaging winds expected to be the main threat.

The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office issued the watch at 2:32 p.m. Aug. 20, 2026. It remains in effect until 10 p.m.

The watch includes all three Southern Maryland counties, along with other parts of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia.

Storm Prediction Center outlooks place Southern Maryland in a Slight Risk, or Level 2 of 5, for severe thunderstorms.

A tornado threat is also present, with portions of Southern Maryland within an area carrying a 5% to 9% probability of a tornado within 25 miles of a location.

The watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
